For many years now gluten free foods are being staple in stores where they sell health foods. Many people are developing allergy to gluten and yet the grocery stores have begun stocking their shelves with gluten. Basically Gluten is a form of protein which is contained in barley, wheat and rye. Gluten is the ingredient in flour that holds it together. Every food like pizzas, pastas, cookies and soups etc contain gluten. An unfortunate thing about gluten is it can be a toxin to people who are allergic to it when consumed. Gluten rich diets are found to be the factor behind many serious ailments such as iron deficiency and decreased bone density. Here are some of the most popular foods for you to have gluten free products in your diet.

Gluten is a grain -like crop and used an alternative for rice or couscous and can be a healthy breakfast, lunch or dinner. It is light and has a nutty flavor.

Potatoes - You should keep away from foods which are rich in starches if you want to live in a gluten free lifestyle. But you always can eat potatoes (white, sweet, yams), since they are gluten-free products.

A worry-free food for those on a gluten-free diet are plain vegetables and they are an excellent source of vitamins. Be aware that dressings may contain ingredients that are not conducive to a gluten free diet, such as various flavorings derived from cereals containing gluten.

Breads - There is no need to avoid bread just because you are avoiding gluten. Alternatives such as rice, soy and potato can be brought from local grocery stores.

Seafood/Meat Although seafood and meats are a protein rich food, they do not contain the specific protein that triggers allergic reactions from gluten. Seafood and meat are rich in protein and do not trigger allergic reactions from gluten.

If you are using a marinade on your meat or seafood, ensure you read the ingredients carefully to ensure it stays in line with your gluten free diet.

Just because you are on a gluten free diet does not mean you cannot enjoy cookies and cake for dessert. Make it a point to shop for gluten free products. These products can be found in many grocers who stock healthy or organic section.

You need not stay away from healthy and delicious foods if you are under gluten free diet. Gluten free cook books are now available specifically for gluten free diets. Many of your favorite food can be had on a gluten free diet.
